    Cheap Ambition?

Since writing my last post over two weeks ago, my resolve to become an Air Force pilot has only been strengthened. I have spent the majority of my time researching the process and possibilities of joining the Air Force. I guarantee you that I have read all of these details at least three times. New additions to my computer include an Air Force wallpaper and an aviation screensaver. I'm sure that many of you reading this would think, my god, Tom's pathetic and obsessive, honestly, I'd have to agree with you.

One thing that I am worried about is that my ambition to become a pilot is simply a cheap dream. It's not as if this is a unique dream, most kids grow up thinking they'll be a pilot and fly the real things of the models they've played with. Even now, when I say what I want to do, many others say, "Oh yeh, I wouldn't mind doing that". This isn't an attack against the people who say this to me, but this is what I feel 'cheapens' my dream. I suppose that the same thing applies with those who want to become lawyers of doctors.

The entire application process for the Air Force includes 6 stages, each of which needing to be passed, before progressing to the next stage. These steps are: Enquiry, JOES (Job Options evaluation Session) Day, Interviews, Physical fitness assessment, officer selection board and finally, appointment. In order to be as prepared as possible, I've organised to speak to various people, who may be able to offer me advice in successfully pursuing my application. This, along with studying the Wad of Information sent to me, I hope will enable me to get as far as possible into the application process. Currently, I'm at stage two; My JOES Day is actually this Thursday. I'm both nervous and excited about this.

From what I've heard, there are people less-intelligent than me (not a conceded comment) that have become pilots. This leads me to believe that its not only about being smart, its about being the right kind of person for what Air Force pilots have to face. Therefore, things are basically out of my hands,(besides getting my best academic marks possible) if I'm the right person, I'll get in, if I'm not, I'll be REJECTED. By taking a page out of Mrs Case's book, I'm trying to "Look at things philosophically".

Sorry if you're not interested in my ambitions, but I felt like writing this anyway.

Cya all tomorrow, actually it's today now.
